Unwittingly, I manage to tick a number of diversity boxes: female, person of colour, part-timer, working mum, person of faith. But for most of my life, I have felt zero connection to the “minority” label. At times I have actually loathed it.
Staff Stories
At Private Media we are surrounded by some of the smartest and most interesting people in Australia. No… make that the planet. Actually, make it the universe. And we make our living out of selling yarns.
I had been trying to come up with ways to build up our internal community more… and thought, why not tap into one of our greatest strengths?
Storytelling.
This idea is actually stolen from Dean Yates, our mental health strategist, based on an initiative he led at Reuters to help normalise the conversation around mental illness. The blogs were a sledgehammer against stigma and shame, communalised what many had suffered in silence and made staff feel more comfortable seeking help.
So here is our collection of Staff Stories – where we hope to strengthen our sense of community by learning about each other’s experiences and sharing different perspectives. And potentially even have our minds opened in little unexpected ways.
I would love love love to have contributions from anyone around the business. There is no qualifier, everyone has their own personal story to tell.
